The majority of people seeking Clinical Psychology services have one or more challenges, problems or concerns affecting their ability to act effectively and feel good about some part of their lives (e.g., at work, in school or in relationships). They are generally seeking expert assistance and skilled practical guidance to help them with such issues. Some clients require a specific psychological expertise, such as a diagnostic consultation or an assessment. Our clients often want assistance in learning how they can feel less stressed, better able to meet their needs and goals and to increase their enjoyment and satisfaction in life. Positive changes happen rapidly for some clients while for others a longer series of sessions is needed to fully address challenges or resolve problems. Presenting concerns to a Psychologist can include a variety of issues such as adjustment to illness, pain management, disability or loss, anxiety and/or panic disorder, phobias or fears, behaviour problems, attention issues, career changes or losses, abuse or trauma, depression, grief and bereavement losses, depression, self-esteem, stress management and family communication issues.

Modes of Treatment

The approach and treatment Dr. Sunseth uses are always developed in concert with each individual client and are collaborative in nature.  Different modalities are used for different situations and tailored to each individual, based on the presenting issues and on the individual’s state of readiness at the time. A variety of approaches including Cognitive-Behavioural Therapy (CBT), insight-oriented, psychodynamic, and combined approaches are used in assisting her clients. In addition, the Parental Guidance and Family Therapy she provides often involves work on development of communication strategies, as well more educational approaches. Typically, individual child and family therapy, education and CBT strategies are provided to children in combination with Parental Guidance work with parents.
